New & Prospective Students | Disability Services

If you have decided that Ocean County College is the place for you, we welcome you to our community! Below you will find more information about how to work with the Office of Disability Services (“Disability Services”), and how to request accommodations.

Disability Services recognizes that students with documented physical, sensory, psychological, medical, learning, or other disabilities may require accommodations to meet their learning potential. Our office embraces an interactive intake process for students to learn about their qualifying accommodations and how to use any approved accommodations that provide equal access to college classes and services.

Wherever you are in the process, we are here to answer your questions. Again, congratulations on your acceptance to Ocean County College. We look forward to working with you!

New Students (Freshman/New to College, Including High School Students)

Before registering with Disability Services, make sure you first apply to 365球赛平台 at http://0dhj.lucebeijing.com/ . Visit the Hub (in-person or online at http://0dhj.lucebeijing.com/the-hub/) for assistance as a first-year student.

Registering with Disability Services

If you plan to enroll in classes at Ocean County College, we recommend self-disclosing your disability to our office. Although your request for assistance may be submitted anytime during the semester, we recommend you request any needed accommodations well in advance prior to the start of the semester. This gives us as much time as possible to work with you to put an accommodation letter in place and arrange any needed services before you start classes at Ocean County College.

After you are accepted to Ocean County College, you start this process by submitting your request online through the Accommodate Portal. Here you will access the Initial Accommodation Request – Student Intake Form. Please visit our Get Started page to access that form and to learn more about what information is helpful to share with us. We look forward to reviewing your submitted information and connecting with you.

New & Prospective Student FAQ

Yes.

If you are a high school student enrolled in the Early College or Jump Start program and plan to earn college credit for your coursework, you must apply for accommodations through 365球赛平台. A high school IEP or 504 plan cannot be used in the college setting.

At the high school level, accommodations are determined proactively through meetings with teachers, family members or caregivers, and school staff. However, in college, you are responsible for being your own self-advocate. You can still ask your family or caregivers for guidance and share whatever information you wish to with them, but the college will only directly communicate with you about your access and accommodations.

In college, you are responsible for using the disability accommodation process at Ocean County College to request and use reasonable accommodations.

We recognize that a person can develop or become aware of a disability at any time. For that reason, we do not have formal deadlines. However, the sooner we hear from you, the sooner we may be able to assist you with your needs.

Below are the suggested timelines for new accommodation requests:

Fall Semester

  • Submit by May 30th to allow us adequate time to review your request

Spring Semester

  • Submit by December 15th to allow us adequate time to review your request
No, the Initial Accommodation Request should be completed by you, the student. You can have a family member or someone else help if assistance is needed. We will be communicating with you regarding your request, and it is important that we receive the Self-Disclosure Form in your own words.
Our application process is completely paperless. Please don’t drop off or mail any print materials unless our office advises you to do so. Documents that you will upload must be in PDF or Word format. “Portfolio” PDFs and secured PDFs which require a password are not compatible with our system.

If you require assistance scanning your print documents into electronic format, contact our office at accommodations@lucebeijing.com to schedule an appointment.

The accommodation process may require that we disclose your accommodation needs (though, not your disability) to certain faculty or staff members who are helping to implement your accommodations. This is only done when needed. We recognize your right to determine who receives this information and your right to confidentiality. Your disability-related records are not stored in any central student database at the college, only within our office.
No, you are not obligated to disclose what your disability is to your instructor or other course staff. If you receive academic accommodations, you will share an official accommodation letter with your instructors. The letter will detail your accommodations but will not state what your disability is.
No, your disability-status or registration-status with our office will never appear on your college transcript or any other official document from the registrar’s office. Neither will your accommodations.
